Disgruntled Mother and Grandmother Kathleen Leigh Executed Her Ex-Daughter In Law Marisa Galloway So Her Son Kenny Leigh Can Have Full Custody Of His Daughter Who She Believed Was Being Abused By Her Mom
On Friday July 26 2024, just before 9am in a wealthy neighborhood on the upper east side in Manhattan New York, 65 year old Kathleen Leigh went to the vicinity of her ex daughter in law’s home with two guns, and shot her in her head and again in her back, then shot herself in the head.
45 year old Marisa Galloway had just buckled in her 1 year old daughter in her car seat and was putting away the stroller in the trunk when Kathleen who had been watching and waiting for her, walked up to her and carried out her vengeful deed.
The entire incident was caught on video as reported by NYPD chief Joseph Kenny,“What we have on video, Ms. Galloway puts the child in the backseat of her car. She then was in the process of putting the stroller in the car trunk when Ms. Leigh approached, shoots her in the head and when she fell she shot her in the back.”

According to police, her son Kenny Leigh and her ex-daughter in law Marisa Galloway were engaged in a bitter custody battle over their 4 year old daughter after which Kenny was given custody from Friday through Monday while Marisa had custody from Tuesday through Thursday. However, the child’s father Kenny believed his daughter was being abused by her mother and he communicated that to his mother as well as the police. He stated in several reports that his daughter came home with bruises, which led to 2 Administration for Children’s Services complaints. However, investigators found the accusations to be unfounded, but Kenny and his mom believed Marisa was abusive.
According to NY Post a law enforcement source told them, the troubles between Marisa and Kenny began in July 2021, when 2 domestic incident reports were filed after Marisa and her ex-husband got into arguments over several days – including one in a doctor’s office but none had resulted in an arrest.
According to her neighbor Meryl Feidelman speaking with CBS News, “Marisa always talked about the fact that she had a former husband that was harassing the hell out of her. And I had child services at my door one evening asking if I had ever heard any problems next door. I said, ‘No, no she’s a lovely, lovely mother, a lovely woman”:
A resident in the building where Kathleen stayed with her son Kenny told NY Post that she ran into the shooter this past Thursday – dressed in a hot pink dress and showing no sign of her cancer diagnosis. According to her, “Kathleen used to say things to me like the mother is abusing the child, which I don’t think there was any evidence of that. But I know she did not like the ex-daughter-in-law.”
Cops found Marisa bloodied but still breathing, slumped near the car’s rear while Kathleen was found laying on the sidewalk with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head. Kathleen was pronounced dead at the scene while Marisa was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Marisa was a schoolteacher and former track and field coach at Fordham University where she had graduated in 2001. She was a longtime member of Central Park Track Club where she is a former board member, and a current advisory board member.
Kathleen was a retired probation officer from North Park Avenue in Chicago who relocated to NYC three years ago after her diagnosis with cancer.
This mother and grandmother seems to have been fed up with seeing her son upset over not being able to protect his 4 year old daughter from her own mother, and she was also upset she herself was not able to protect her grandchild. So she decided to kill her granddaughter’s mother which is the only way she thought her son would be able to get full custody of his daughter, and her mother could not abuse her anymore. And being terminally ill probably made it easier to sacrifice her life for her son and her granddaughter, because of course she knows she would go to prison and she couldn’t take that, so she killed herself as well.
A mother’s love!?
It doesn’t matter if Marisa was abusive or not in reality, Kathleen and her son Kenny believed that she was, and that is what she acted on.
May Marisa’s precious soul rest in peace and may Kathleen find peace in the afterlife 💜🕊
What can we learn from this?
I think the main lesson here is that people are unhinged these days for whatever reason, and so families need to find ways to resolve their issues amicably – as much as is possible, instead of shrugging each other off and moving on.
What say you?
