U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Gun Ban On Domestic Violence Abusers 8-1

Watch discussion:

A restraining order will cover them – after legally offing the perpetrator, but a restraining order alone does not protect anyone, and there are hundreds of cases to prove this.

The Supreme Court got this one right, but women must also be proactive in protecting themselves – themselves.

If a man is intent on killing his partner or ex-partner, the government taking away his license gun or issuing him a stay away order in the form of a piece of paper, will not stop him from getting access to an illegal, unlicensed gun and carrying out his act. He will use whatever tool or method to kill the person he is intent on killing, and this is why it’s up to the woman to protect herself and remain alive. When these men are enraged and intent on killing their partner or ex-partner, they don’t even care if they die in the process, and many times end up killing themselves – subsequently.

Yes it’s a win! It will significantly lessen the number of domestic gun violence and save many many women’s lives. And I know men who really want to delete their women will find a way to do it, but this will definitely be a hindrance for many. Kudos supreme court!

Judge Thomas sticking to the law to the tee, but sometimes common sense have to prevail. See the lady you reported on a few days ago who reported her husband abuse and they arrested him then let him out within 24 hours – without taking away his gun or notifying the lady, and what did he do immediately upon his release? He came to her house and was pointing his gun at her to kill her and their 8 year old son tried to get the gun from him and was shot in his head and died a couple days later. If they had taken away his gun I don’t think he would have been able to get one that quickly, and the lady would probably be able to escape with all her kids. So this is necessary and I hope they enforce it always.

Briana sorry, but that ban ain’t stopping nobody from offing someone they really want to off, and I think the court knows that even with their restraining orders and all. They will find illegal gun to do it if that’s their preferred weapon of choice or use some other method to do what they want to do. Each woman or man will have to protect her or himself and thankfully we have the 2nd amendment to back us. I’m with @horrendouscrimes on this!

Anthony I don’t think this man would have been able to get an illegal gun so quickly after being released from jail which would have given her some time to possibly escape if they had also notified her of his release. But you are correct on that I guess we all have to take on the major responsibility of protecting ourselves – sadly, which is the best way to ensure our own safety.

Yes, I like this common sense approach to gun violence for domestic abusers. I don’t see how someone could oppose this affirmative ruling when clearly it needs to be done to quell the domestic gun violence epidemic we’ve been seeing in recent years. The women facing this are breathing a sigh of relief right now, but I hope they also do as you preach @horrendouscrimes. Self protection is the best and most reliable protection when it comes to domestic violence.

I agree with you it will help lots of women as I believe most men will bear this law in mind and refrain from abusing their partner in the first place, but there are some men who will let nothing stop them from unleashing abuse on their partner, and ultimately kill them with legal or illegal gun, knife, machete, hammer, axe, strangle, or stomping them to death. And that’s why I’m all the way with you on women arming themselves so they can protect themselves – themselves 💯%.

  5. I’m happy they recognize the need to uphold this ban but more will need to be done to ensure women are safe. And I’m on board with women getting trained and armed but I’m concerned that many of these women will be hesitant to shoot their partner or ex-partner, and that hesitancy will cause them to be killed – with their own weapon.
